Spotify to Apple Music Shortcut Broke? Here Is What Works Now
Short answer: most Spotify to Apple Music Shortcuts called the song.link (Odesli) API behind the scenes. That API closed for public use in 2026, so the Shortcut now fails with an error or returns nothing. The quickest fix is to stop patching the Shortcut and use an app that sits in the same share sheet, like SongPort for iPhone.
If you landed here mid-frustration, that is all you need. If you want to know why it broke and why the "fixed" versions on Reddit keep sending friends to the wrong song, read on. It takes five minutes.
What your Shortcut was actually doing
The Shortcut looked simple. You tapped Share on a song in Spotify, picked the Shortcut, and a moment later an Apple Music link was on your clipboard.
Under the hood, almost every popular version did the same three things:
- Grab the Spotify URL from the share sheet.
- Send it to
api.song.link, a free API that knew where that song lived on every platform. - Pull the Apple Music link out of the answer and copy it.
Step 2 did all the real work. The Shortcut was a thin wrapper around someone else's API. And that API is gone.
Why it stopped working
Linktree owns song.link and announced in May 2026 that the public API would be retired. Since then, a request returns an error instead of links. The full timeline is in the news post on the song.link API shutdown.
What that looks like on your iPhone:
- "Can't find API matches" or a similar error from the Shortcut.
- A Shortcut that runs, then copies nothing.
- A Get Dictionary Value step that suddenly returns an empty result.
The song.link website still works. Paste a link there and you get a page. It is only the API that Shortcuts, Discord bots, and small apps relied on that closed.
The popular fix, and why it picks the wrong song
Threads on r/shortcuts are full of rewrites. The usual recipe:
- Ask Spotify for the song title and artist (through its oEmbed endpoint).
- Search the iTunes Search API for that title and artist.
- Take the first result.
It sort of works. Until it doesn't. Searching by name has some well known failure modes:
| What you share | What a name search can return |
|---|---|
| The original studio version | The live version, or a 2011 remaster |
| A song with a common title | A different artist's song with the same name |
| A track featuring another artist | Nothing, because the "feat." part does not match |
| A single that is also on an album | The album version with a different length |
Your friend taps the link, hears the wrong thing, and you look like you have questionable taste. Not ideal.
The better way to match is by ISRC, the code a label gives each recording. The same recording carries the same ISRC on Spotify, Apple Music, and the rest. SongPort matches on ISRC first and only falls back to a title search when it has to, for example on YouTube, where many uploads have no ISRC.
The fix that needs no Shortcut
The thing people wanted from that Shortcut was simple: share from the music app, get a link that works for everyone. So that is exactly what the SongPort app does.
How it works:
- In Spotify, Apple Music, or another music app, tap Share on a song. (In Spotify, tap More to open the full iPhone share sheet.)
- Tap SongPort.
- A small card appears over your music app. When it says Link copied, paste it in your chat.
Your friend opens the link and gets a page with a button for each platform: Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Deezer, Tidal and SoundCloud. They tap theirs and the song opens there.
That is slightly different from what the old Shortcut did. Instead of turning one Spotify link into one Apple Music link, you send one link that works for everyone in the group chat. Spotify, Apple Music, whatever the person after them uses. No more "can you send it for Apple Music?"
Why an app beats a Shortcut here
- Nothing to maintain. When a service changes, the app gets fixed. You do not have to dig through actions again.
- No "untrusted Shortcut" setting. You install it like any app.
- It works on links from six apps, in either direction. Apple Music to Spotify works just as well.
- Your links stay on your phone. The app keeps the last 50 links you made, on that iPhone only. There is no account and nothing to sign in to.
The honest limits
- The app is in beta on TestFlight, Apple's app for test versions. It is free. You can also leave your email and get one message when it is in the App Store.
- Each iPhone makes 10 new links a day. When they run out, the app tells you when they are back.
- It is iPhone only. On Android, or on a laptop, paste the link at songport.link.

Still want to build your own Shortcut?
Fair enough, Shortcuts are fun. Two things to keep in mind:
- Do not put an API key in a Shortcut. Shortcuts get shared, and the key goes with them. If you need an API, call it from a small server you control.
- Expect to maintain it. Any Shortcut that depends on someone else's free endpoint can break the same way the song.link ones did.
If you are a developer who needs matching inside your own app or bot, the SongPort API is the paid, supported version of what song.link's free API used to be.
FAQ
Most of those Shortcuts called the song.link (Odesli) API, which closed for public use in 2026. The Shortcut still runs, but the API it depends on no longer answers with links.
Some rewrites search Apple Music by song title and artist instead. They work for many songs but can pick the wrong version, like a live recording or a remaster. An app that matches on the recording's ISRC, such as SongPort, avoids that.
Yes. SongPort works in both directions and with links from Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Deezer, Tidal and SoundCloud.
No. The app has no account and no sign-in. Your recent links are stored on your iPhone only.
Yes. The beta is free on TestFlight, and each iPhone can make 10 new links a day.
There is no Android app. Paste the link on songport.link and you get the same kind of link.
